{"id":41,"date":"2012-08-17T13:19:28","date_gmt":"2012-08-17T12:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.riedmann.it\/blog\/?p=41"},"modified":"2012-08-17T13:29:44","modified_gmt":"2012-08-17T12:29:44","slug":"winbindd-at-100-cpu-after-system-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.riedmann.it\/?p=41","title":{"rendered":"winbindd at 100% cpu after system crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a power shortage, nobody could connect to the Samba shares of a Debian Linux server, and a look at &#8220;top&#8221; on the Linux server showed that the winbindd process used 100% cpu.<\/p>\n<p>The solution was easy:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<pre>\/etc\/init.d\/samba stop\r\n\/etc\/init.d\/winbind stop<\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>a kill -9 &lt;processnumber&gt; to the running winbindd process.<\/p>\n<p>Find and remove the gencache.tdb file (\/var\/lib\/samba\/gencache.tdb on my Debian server).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<pre>\/etc\/init.d\/samba start\r\n\/etc\/init.d\/winbind start\r\n\/etc\/init.d\/samba stop\r\nnet rpc join -U administrator%&lt;admin_password&gt;\r\n\/etc\/init.d\/samba start<\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This fixed the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Configuration: Domain master is a Windows SBS 2003, main file server a Debian Linux Lenny server using winbind as primary autentication mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a power shortage, nobody could connect to the Samba shares of a Debian Linux server, and a look at &#8220;top&#8221; on the Linux server showed that the winbindd process used 100% cpu.
