{"id":95,"date":"2013-08-17T22:28:54","date_gmt":"2013-08-17T21:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.riedmann.it\/blog\/?p=95"},"modified":"2013-08-20T12:41:17","modified_gmt":"2013-08-20T11:41:17","slug":"special-folders-on-windows-or-how-to-copy-a-program-icon-to-desktop-on-windows-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.riedmann.it\/?p=95","title":{"rendered":"Special Folders on Windows &#8211; or how to copy a program icon to desktop on Windows 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever had a problem of copying a program&#8217;s shortcut from the Program Menu to the desktop?<\/p>\n<p>With Windows versions between NT and 7 absolutely no problem: open the start menu, select the item with a right mouse click and then select &#8220;Copy&#8221; from the context menu and &#8220;Paste&#8221; on the desktop.<\/p>\n<p>With Windows 8 this is becoming very hard, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p>The Start Menu structure is here, but on the Start screen there is no possibility to copy the shortcut.<\/p>\n<p>It is here:<\/p>\n<p>c:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this folder is also hidden.<\/p>\n<p>And since I don&#8217;t like to fiddle every time, I have created the small utility OpenSpecialFolders that gives you a list of most special folders on the system and let you open them in a new explorer window, so copying and pasting shortcuts is a lot easier.<\/p>\n<p>You can download a zip file with the exe and a few runtime DLLs here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.riedmann.it\/download\/OpenSpecialFolders.zip\" title=\"http:\/\/www.riedmann.it\/download\/OpenSpecialFolders.zip\">OpenSpecialFolders.zip<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hope this will help someone!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever had a problem of copying a program&#8217;s shortcut from the Program Menu to the desktop?
